On one of my secondaries, for my top choice school, I didn't write one of the essays labeled "optional". It was about challenges I may have experienced in professional/personal life. I felt like my personal statement on my primary touched on this, so I didn't want to beat a dead horse. Was this a mistake and should I upload an update essay with this question answered?

You will have to wait and find out. In the future, if an application gives you space to sell yourself, you should take full advantage of it.

Will it help or will someone actually read the entire entry, I do not know as it probably depends on who looks at the application and what they choose to focus on. However, it most likely cannot hurt you do add more information if they give you space. For future reference, this could have been a great opportunity for you to go into more depth on one or two main points.

What is done, is done. Do not stress about it as you cannot change the past. Look forward.

Good luck.
