Options during year off...HELP!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes - volunteering and shadowing are the only healthcare-related activities that it looks like I'll be involved with.

I'm having the same problem as you supraspeed. I am continuing to volunteer at the hospital, but I have gotten no replied back for the 10 or so hospital jobs I applied to. They all require prior experience/certification. If I don't get a healthcare related job in about 2 weeks, I will probably start applying to Best Buy lol

Way ahead of you bro. Already working as a pizza delivery driver and volunteering in the ER. Figure I'd rather make money in the time I'm searching for a 'health-related' job.

What is your degree in? Do you have any marketable skills? First think about what you can do, than try to find something to do. I wouldn't be waiting tables, etc if I could do something else.
To be honest, you don't have any guarantee that you're going anywhere in 12 months time, so I wouldn't be sharing that with anyone. You may find that many people will not be happy about your going to medical school, and I don't just mean your employer who will have to find someone else. There's a lot of jealousy of success going around. My wife doesn't tell random people or clients that I am a physician if asked. She says that I am "retired military" and that usually covers it. Sometimes she adds that I do some contract work for the hospital. Both are pretty much the truth. She absolutely has been treated differently when people found out what I do. She also doesn't invite coworkers or clients to our home for meetings, etc. Be careful with your information, it could cost you a good job.
