Currently applying to D.O. schools, but I'm also looking for things to do during my gap year, more specifically clinical jobs (possibly to put on my application as well).

What are your opinions on applying for medical scribe or surgical technician positions without prior experience or training?

Also, can anyone clarify whether or not these positions need certifications? Sorry if it's been posted before, I haven't really found enough information. Any personal insight or experience with those would be great too! Thank you.

I'm a scribe, I love it. I think it was a fantastic experience. It does not require certification. Message me if you have any more questions.

+1 for scribing - no certifications needed and you learn so much about the flow of an medical office or ER (depending on where you were assigned to). you also get a jump ahead on medical terminology which I am hoping will be super helpful once classes start this fall 🙂

Just as a side note, I scribed for 3 years in college and did it the first 4-5 months after I graduated. Once I was accepted to a single medical school, I stopped the scribing and picked up a job completely unrelated to medicine and as well as coaching. best decision I ever made. I am loving having this free time to really focus in on a sport that I have been so involved in for the past 10 years (and will likely not have time for once school starts).
