I am interested in pursuing a PharmD, but I'm not interested in handing people there medication behind the counter of Wallmart. I was wondering what other options are there for having a PharmD? Also I have always been a big fan in drug development, and perhaps creating health supplements, will I have to pursue a PHD in pharmaceutics's for that profession? Also, is there any humanitarian work a pharmacist can be involved in?

I'd been kind of wondering the same thing! I am interested in drug development and research as well....

I work for a Clinical Research Organization and on a daily basis I work with PharmD's that are in either executive positions, Clinical Development, Business Consulting, Medical Writing, and conducting Clinical Research.

It's so much more than just 'handing out pills'

Yes, the possibilities are almost endless with being a pharmD. That is what really got me interested. I too probably would not prefer to work at a public chain store. However, they do pay more, so I plan to do that for a while until my loans are paid off. Then, will probably move to the hospital environment. There is always teaching as an option too. Research and sales are other options, but I wouldn't go for a pharmD degree if that was what I wanted to pursue. There are other, cheaper paths to those careers.

Sorry no offense here but you need to do a little more research regarding PharmD, which offers a student much more than just working in retail pharmacy. If all you know about a pharmacist is working behind a counter in Walmart then you probably will not even get into pharmacy school, let alone dreaming about doing other things with the degree.

Honestly, I look at working at a pharmacy retail store as the worst case scenario (no offense), but still one good of a safety net as it is still a good job. There are many options out there with some careers not even related directly to pharmacy
