Optomcas help

Hi I'm having trouble with OptomCas transcript entry. In my school, a lecture course is 0.50 units and each lab is 0.25 units (per semester). How does this translate into the "credits" for transcript entry? How many credits is one semester in American schooling?

Sorry for sounding stupid maybe I am but I am just getting really frustrated. Is "units" and "credits" the same thing?
