Wow, now they're marketing for a board cert review course??? I feel more sorry for the current OD students and anyone even considering this profession as a career; it just seems to be all going down hill....

Do you really think the future of optometry looks that bad? I'm not trying to sound sarcastic when I ask this.

It isn't mandatory, and if it were to become mandatory, expect the scope of practice of Optometrist to be greatly increased, I.E. ability to perform eye surgery/LASIK etc.

Yeah it looks bad. They're pushing so hard for this board certification of ODs when most ODs still rely heavily on eyeglass & contact lens sales for the bulk of revenue and many states still have limited scope of practice.

The profession needs leadership and a voice that echoes what the majority of ODs speak. Not board certification when there is no need for it.

Imagine being board certified in the state of NY and still can't write an oral Rx, or board certified in Massachusetts and still can't treat glaucoma.

I'm just being honest here, the future looks bleak; but not hopeless. Yet.

So then what needs to be done to get things changed? Will you start?

What are the negatives of board certification? (I'm asking as someone who would like to be educated on the topic, I have no stance on it either way since information on the topic isn't the easiest to obtain)

I wish I could start a revolution against the AOA like in Tunisia & Egypt but I doubt it.....

There are many problems with board cert., but the biggest flaw is that Optometrists are already specialized, hence there is no distinction between a B.C. OD & a general OD who passed a 3-part NBEO exam in order to obtain a license.

Its all a scam so that "those that be" can make money off the BC process, CE's etc.

The bottom line is our profession is taking wrong turns and the leadership just does not seem to care, except for their own pockets & interests.
