Hello everyone

These following images, however, seem to largely be from contact lens textbooks that I can't identify (but some of the images seem very familiar). Anyone recognize any of these photos?

Have any of you seen these images before?

The problem with this is that in Asia this happens all the time. I'm not saying it's right, but Asia has so much copied material, from pirated software, to knock-offs of Nike's, to text books, and this.

The chances of chasing a copied source in Asia is slim to none.

One of my friends from India had sources directly from India that would sell you copies of any text, but it would be in complete black and white. They would be about 1% of the cost, but would look like photocopies that were cut to size and bound together. Professors that I personally knew who wrote the text books found out, but didn't bother chasing the culprits in India, because it's too much trouble, and your outcome will not be worth very much.

I know exactly what you mean.

I know exactly what you mean. People don't buy textbooks here, they photocopy them. Professors order translations of English textbooks into their native languages, then publish them as their own work. I know this. I see this every day.

The issue is this: this ophthalmologist is notorious for his lack of ethics. I personally know that he:
1. does LASIK on folks with FF keratoconus, some of whom develop ectasia. He will then go back and change the pre-operative topo to a "normal" one, just in case there is a lawsuit.
2. pressures his secretaries/nurses to have sex with him.
3. is paying someone to do his part-time PhD for him.
4. allegedly has authored a whole LOT of manuals/publications, but none of the work is his. I have a colleague that gave him gift authorship on a Medline publication. His response was, "What's Medline?". He subsequently has gone around the world presenting at ophthalmological conferences (including AAO!!) claiming the work as his own.

I've asked around - this man has a terrible reputation within ophthalmic circles (he has hired a bodyguard cause someone has tried a hit on him before), but he advertises himself so well, he's actually one of the most successful MDs in this country.

He's a big fish. But I'm here. And I have the book in front of me. I know B & H have a local branch in this country - so I'm willing to send them an email. I'm willing to try to follow this. Maybe I get nowhere. I'm willing to accept that outcome, but I'll give it a try.

So that's why I'm asking for this help.

Thanks.

Wow. With all due respect, be careful buddy. If this guy is one of the most successful MD's like you say, then he should have accumulated over 4-5 million dollars in funds for a 5 year term. The one MD ophthalmologist I'm very close friends with, makes close to 850K a year. In this country, money buys power, and power gives people an unreasonable amount of leverage in any situation. Best of luck in your noble quest.

Thanks for the heads up.

I just have to email these pics and I would expect my role would be done.

The histological cross sections look like they were taken from a small manual published by B&L that we were given in third year (slight chance that it could also be from paragon, but i think its B&L), don't remember the name of it b/c i don't have it here with me on externship.

Be careful, you might find yourself in need of the body guard! 🙄
