I am just curious about how you all started to do your observations. Did you go in and get interview my the person that you wanted to do observations with, did you call and ask....I just dont know how to go about doing this

My first shadowing experience I actually got through my school...but then after that I was on my own.
I drove around town and asked if they were looking for an interns and gave them a resume. One place said they had no room for an intern so then I asked if I could simply just shadow, unfort. they never called me back. But it was okay because the next place I went to interviewed me on the spot and gave me a job!! 🙂

good luck! So yeah, just go in to an office and ask, or even call. =) Tell them you are pre-opt and just wanted some experience shadowing/observing the OD.

do u mean observe or an actual internship? observations are reaaal easy to get, just call the office to see if they'll allow you to go in and observe. if you're looking for internships, call the office (it's better if you know someone who has interned there and had a good experience) to see if they're accepting interns. be smart about who you intern/ work for 👍

I agree with Ggelato..just look in the yellow pages for optometrists and make a few calls. Most of them will gladly let you do an unpaid internship. If you don't have any luck, I'm certain there will be more spots in the summer. gluck!

I started out by going door to door to optometrists' offices in my area with my resume asking if there were any shadowing opportunities available. One of the doctors called me back within a week and it just went on from there. Same thing for when I was looking for a job as a tech. Simple as that. Don't be scared, things will work out in the end. 🙂

I went to my family optometrist who was more than happy to let me shadow/write me reference letter.

Then I called another optometrists and he said he would meet with me to discuss the profession.

Then, I was lucky enough to have a friend who's mom is an optometrist in a group practice, and it happened so that she needed extra staff, so I am currently working there.

Just call around and stop by to talk to optometrists. Most of them don't mind ! GL!
