Hey guys,

If you search up Optometry in wikipedia, it says that optometrists are alternatively known as "ophthalmic opticians". Now I know for a fact that this is what they used to call optometrists in the UK (I think they still do in some circles apparently), but this statement is ultimately gonna mislead the public, especially those that live in NA. Anything we can do to knock some sense into the editor? (his username is Chrisieboy on wikipedia). I don't know what he has against optometry, but several others and I have tried to convince him to either take down the biased statement or move it to the UK subsection of the page, but this guy won't budge *sigh*.

Big deal. People are gonna have to come to us to get their glasses/contacts regardless of what we're called - whether that's optometrist/"opthalmic optician"/eye doctor/eye person/that guy. I doubt many people go to wikipedia to read about optometrists anyway.

😆

They should clarify that optometry in America and Canada is way different than optometry anywhere else in the world and not refer to all optometrists as ophthalmic opticians. We should just be called oculists in USA/Canada as ODs basically just took over that role.

Just fixed up the Optometry wikipedia page and reported that Chrisieboy abuser.

Had to pull out 5 sources to state that ODs are called Doctors of Optometry in the USA. He keeps getting sources from 1989 to refer to optometrists as ophthalmic opticians in the U.K.

Check out the new U.S. optometry section 🙂
