I didn't know that OMF Radiology is an ADA accepted specialty.

Anyone have any information about the specialty? I don't see a huge need for a radiologist in dentistry? Yet, it is recognized by the ADA, so I assume there is demand for it?

I hear the pay is quite poor for a dentist, and especially one who has gone through 3 extra years of residency (avg ~150K/yr) but I don't know if I fully trust the source of that information.

What have you guys heard about OMF Radiology?

Mostly an academic speciality - teaching. They also get referrals to the educational inst. Check the ADA site.... especially CODA (Commission on Dental Accrediation) for more info

According to the two radiologists at my school, it is difficult not because there are a ton of people applying, like for OMFS, but because there are so few programs. So the few students that do apply are all competing for a very limited number of seats.

If you are interested, keep in mind that it will be an academic specialty, with maybe a few outside consults by oral surgeons. There will be some research in terms of the radiographic properties of certain materials, atypical presentation of certain conditions, and researching new methods for imaging.

Thanks for the info THS, do you know anyone who is already in the OMFR program?

Sorry I didn't respond sooner, I didn't see this.

No, I'm not aware of anyone I know in a radiology program.
