Oral Care Information

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It always cracks me up when friends ask me about the best toothbrushes or toothpastes to use. The ads on TV make it sound like dentists spend their entire 4 years of school discussing the pros and cons of different brands of toothpaste, toothbrushes and mouthwash.

In all honesty, I think we spent approximately a half hour of lecture time on oral hygiene. Basically I sum it up for my patients this way:

toothbrush: get one that says soft and USE it

toothpaste: one with fluoride

floss: I don't care if you use the little fibers you pull out of celery as long as you do it more than twice a year.

mouthwash: whatever floats your boat but you STILL have to floss
