When I did a tour of the UAB optometry school a few years ago, the optometry student said many of his exams were oral. Is that typical of most optometry schools? That sounds like it could be very tough. Also, how much public speaking do you do at optometry schools? I much rather interact with people on a one on one basis or small group where we can have a dialogue.
 
that's actually fairly unusual. The only oral thing we have to do at UHCO is our final fourth year grand rounds presentation. that is involved, but they prepare you for it. none of our exams per-se are oral exams. You will have to perform cinical competency exams with patients in front of faculty... but that's about as close to oral exam as you're going to get.
