Hello,

Are oral surgeons paid by a patient's health or dental insurance? Does having the extra MD make a difference?

Thanks

Some might say that the MD makes a difference, but in practice it makes no difference...

One of the great things about dentistry is that dentists don't have to bother with HMOs and managed care. I am mainly concerned that Oral Surgeons have to deal with these issues.

A lot of the cases that go to the operating room will be reimbursed (poorly) by medical insurance. Things like TMJ replacement with prosthesis, ameloblastoma resection, facial fracture ORIF. You might be able to bill medical insurance if you had a pt with mental ******ation who needed extractions. Either way, it has nothing to do with your degree.
