This has probably been answered before, but to be an oral surgeon do you do

dental school then med school?

or

med school then dental school?

I think there are some programs where you will end up with a DDS and a MD, not all programs are like this however. In order to get an oral surgery residency you will have to earn a DDS or DMD. So I would say DDS then MD if neccesary.

dental school with a 4 year OMFS residency. You can get you DDS and MD with a couple extra years... thats what I know about it at least.

You complete dental school and then enter residency, either a 4 or 6 year track. The 6 year track includes 2 years of med school, giving you an MD. The 4 year track gives you the surgical training but no MD. Generally both the 4 and 6 year allow you to do the same thing.
