So I am supposed to be interviewing at OHSU for the MD/PhD program in the next few weeks. But I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone who has interviewed there this season already, or who goes there or has good familiarity with the program can answer.

Basically I'm wondering if its worth the time and money (since they don't help get out there) for me to interview there. I ask because over the past few months I have met 4 people either going to school there or who have interviewed there that tell me not to go. They claim the program is suffering a great deal, that they have had a change of administration that is hurting, that they are losing a LOT of funding and that a large portion of the competent PI's are leaving for other institutions.

So does anyone have any suggestions on whether I go or not. I've already been accepted to a few other programs so I don't feel I need to go. It would mainly just to see if it would be a better program, but what I've heard from many sources thus far is don't go.

Any thoughts?

I know very little about their MSTP, but there are a few people on these forums who responded to a request for information a few months from me ago who can PM you. It is true that the MSTP just changed their director. The MSTP also had a recent site visit for their NIH grant renewal. A cursory survey of the news shows that OHSU has had to cut staff and freeze salaries due to the recession, but this is the same as anywhere. On the other hand, the Nike people just gave OHSU $100 million, one of the biggest donations ever to any medical school. Otherwise, I'm not privy to any information otherwise about turmoil at the school or within their MSTP.

I've already been accepted to a few other programs so I'm dying to go so I have a place to go.

You're not making any sense here. If you haven't been accepted anywhere, then you don't throw away interviews. Please clarify.

Sorry, that last sentence wasn't very clear. I should proofread. I meant to say that I don't feel I need to go. Because I have a school to go to already, is it worth still trying to go? I'm not* dying to go, but should I?

I am a current MD/PhD student at OHSU, and personally, I love the school. There are a few hurdles the program is jumping over at the moment, but nothing insurmountable. If you want details, PM me, and I would be glad to talk to you.
