A little bit of background info...I am a sophmore in my undergrad. I am trying to get my bachelors degree in 3 years instead of 4. My freshman year I took 40 credits. This semester I am taking 19.5 and I plan on taking another 19.5 next semester. I have most of my requirements except for Organic 1 and 2. I plan on taking Organic 1 this spring semester and hoping to take the DAT during the summer. Would it be detrimental to my DAT scores if I didn't take Organic 2? Also, by the end of this year, I will have around 80 credits. Could I possibly apply to dental schools or would I just be rejected because I don't have minimum 90 credits or a bachelors? Any advice at all would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Im not sure how it works with admissions, but having not taken Orgo 2 would be detrimental. UNLESS you are open to learning on your own (i.e. youtube videos and other prep material)

It's a risk.

Honestly, this is a decision you are going to have to make. When I took my DAT, I barely saw any content from Ochem2. Personally I think its possible to do well without orgo 2, if you watch Chad's and comprehend everything that he mentions. But having exposure to Orgo2 would definitely be a plus for reactions that you might be unfamiliar with.

I hadn't taken Organic II, and I got a 25 in that section. I just taught myself with Chad's videos and Organic Chemistry as a Second Language: Second Semester Topics.

I think a lot of this depends on how well you do in orgo I. If you struggle in orgo I, it could be very, very hard to teach yourself the second semester's material. I thought orgo II was harder, but still greatly enjoyed the class.

When I took the test, I'd say that 97% of everything you needed to know was covered by Chad. If you can genuinely understand the concepts he is teaching, I think you can score above a 20 on the chemistry sections without batting an eyelash.

I'd see how it goes after the first section. If it goes well, then by all means, go for it!

It will be tough studying for DAT without doing orgo 2. You can try by reading "organic chemistry as a second language", by David Klein. Then try doing problems from Kaplan, Destroyer or Crack The Dat. If you get 80% correct, then try to take the test. Good luck.

I did not take OC II before DAT, used OC as a 2nd language 1st and 2nd semster, Chad's Video's and DAT Destroyer. I got a 29 on OC on the DAT. So yeah, very possible to take the test before OC II.

Same is true for every section on the DAT, it all depends how much you want to work at it.

This is the absolute truth. I pulled a 30 on the bio and had taken very few upper-level courses. Also, even if I hadn't taken orgo II, I think Chad would have been sufficient. Best of luck!

Try Orgo II as a second language, Schaums outlines, Odyssey, Destroyer or Brown and Foote. Those textbook really break down organic chem in a simply way. Organic chem a s a second language does it best and the cheapest. Odyssey has all the problems on the world worked out. Good luck.
