Hi all,

I was wondering how useful it would be to take Organic Chem next year, as a senior in high school, up at my local uni. I'm taking AP Chem and AP Bio as a junior, and have already taken AP physics. The only other science class left at my school is AP Enviro, which I have no interest in.

I will probably get 4's or 5's on the APs from this year, so test scores shouldn't be a problem. Mainly, I'm wondering if undergrad and Med schools would look at this askance. I don't know any others at my school who have taken orgo, so I don't think it's that common to do. It would be great to get the orgo requirements for med school done, though.

Any ideas?

Thanks

If you're taking it at a college, who cares? With that said, I wouldn't take any of my "core requirements" for medical school at a community college, since our admissions committee sees that as being the "easy route".

BTW, what's the rush? You have years before you start medical school...enjoy the time.

If you really want to take it I would say go ahead but make remember that in addition to the class you also have to take a lab which does take up a decent chuck of time. And unlike AP credit (where med schools only see the credit you get from the exams and not the scores) they will see the grade you get in Orgo and it will factor into your GPA, so if you decide to take it make sure you put in the time and effort to get a solid grade.

Yea if org chem is taken at a university then that will be fine, hopefully you get ready to study ;p
tough course..

As a good number of uni students struggle with orgo....you'd probably be better of taking it in uni. If you really have more time on your hands (which you should NOT bc high school is the time for a life...) take some math courses..you'll always use/need those.
