Organic ACS final

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wasn't bad. It'd be interesting to know my percentile (but not interesting enough to actually go find out). All I know was I apparently did well on it. Fun times (not really); just glad it's over and done!

I took it for gen chem, it was wicked easy if you know it, but it's standardized and some schools don't teach certain topics so it's pretty common that you'll see questions that result in a WTF 😕 ...

I dozed that test. 98 percentile 👍 Probably because the ACS was easy compared to our prof's exams 🙄

But of course.

You do realize there IS NO norm data available to determine percentiles yet, right? Actually, there isn't normative data for the past 2 years' forms (i.e., 6 semesters/estimated administration dates). It's impossible to say you're in the 98th percentile if you took it in the past 2 yrs.:laugh::laugh:

I don't know.. My teacher just sent out the email with the percentile so maybe I was just 98 percentile in my class haha 😀

Who else just took there ACS organic chem final? What were your thoughts on it...

Personally, I didn't think it was too hard but some of the questions were like WTH?!

Glad it is over!!! 😀 now it is time to 😴

GLAD OCHEM IS DONE!!!

It was challenging but not that bad 😎

This thread: "Oh my gosh I'm just so smart that the Organic ACS was a breeze for me. If anyone dares to be as smart as me, let's please make a thread out of it."

Enjoy. Half of practicing physicians probably did poorly on this if they ever had to take it, plus after undergrad you don't use ochem at all.

I'm taking the ACS final tomorrow. Nervous. :scared:

It's not bad...but check if your library has the official ACS study guide. I remember my ACS exam was almost identical questions to those in the study guide (it was laughable actually). You could potentially be horrible in O-chem but study this book and get 98th percentile

I, on the other hand, did not complete the Organic ACS final - but rather the typical professor-made final.

However, brethren, even though we do not share the same final, I am equally pleased to be finished with the first semester of O-chem and, furthermore, wish us all to make it rain A's come grade posting time. 😎

I'll be the first to say it - the ACS final reamed me. I finished OChem with A's, but that test was horrible. I am a big enough man to admit - it did terrible things to me.

I thought the ACS OChem was hard as hell, passed Ochem with As but I ran out of time. I forget my raw score but it wasn't that bad, however I thought the test was crazy hard. Good luck.

I've heard mixed reviews. Never took the thing. But, my O-chem class was pretty challenging (as o-chem classes should be).

lol...

I just found it funny someone claimed something that can't be determined (i.e., a percentile rank that does not yet exist). Really, I could care less if someone says they did well. That's great he did well!

Hear, hear. :xf:

I'm just happy to have passed o-chem I with a B-...

I don't know about the last two years, but there is historical data that professors have. I remember my professor e-mailing everyone with how one's score measured up nationally to a percentile. If you type in "ACS Organic Chem Final", lots of college websites (including mine) tell students their grade will be based off a formula that considers their ACS national percentile.

Like I said, the exam is literally recycled questions from their review book (or ever so slight variations). The makers are too lazy to change it up in a meaningful way, and so historical data is probably just as useful for modern tests, even if they don't have information of the last two years.

Regardless, the person who claimed to have scored at the 98th percentile was probably told that was their percentile by their professor (I was told my national percentile). I'm not sure why you are gettin up in their grill....u mad?
