Organic Chem - common names

how important is knowing the common names on the DAT? In my organic chem classes we were only required to know IUPAC names so I need to know whether to spend time memorizing all of the common names of substituents. THANKS

Common names aren't really an issue on the dat but I remember seeing acetone on mine but if u take a year of organic and still dont know what acetone is.. Well good luck. . And just to be safe I would memorize the benzene drivatives like phenol aniline styrene etc
