I haven't taken an organic chemistry course yet and it's my junior year. I'll be taking my first ochem class next semester (my 6th semester) but I want to make sure I take the MCAT/OAT on time if not early. I've taken some practice exams and I pretty much have to guess at 100% of the organic chemistry questions (I can't even rule anything out based on my knowledge of chemistry and biology). Should I risk not doing well on this one section to take the MCAT before the end of next semester or would it be okay to take the MCAT during the summer between junior and senior year?

I would wait until after you've completed ochem. If you take the MCAT in June or even July you won't be late, assuming you don't have to retake and get complete the other parts of your application.

Definitely finish taking the course before taking the MCAT. You'll be doing yourself a favor, especially since you're having to guess on all of the organic questions.

This is not a plan for success. I think you missed the memo that said Good MCAT >>> Late MCAT. Take the MCAT after your senior year if that's what it takes to get the score you are capable of.

There will be some organic chemistry on the MCAT. Sometimes there is a lot. You should take a year's worth of ochem before you take the test. After you do, the ochem questions will be glaringly obvious.

If you can get TBR, that covers a lot of topics in orgo. If that's the only area you're doing bad at, study TBR along the way and that way you dont have to wait til summer to take the mcat. but many people say don't take it before you finish your prereqs so it's up to you

Hey all,

I need some urgent help!! Can someone tell me what the mechanism would be for the reaction that begins with ethyne (acetylene) and goes to 4-heptanol?? I would really, really appreciate it! Thanks everyone and good luck studying!!
