organic chem help!!

hey guys my exam is in about a week and a half and i really cant seem to grasp organic chemistry down...i read through kaplan and chad's DAT/mcat organic chem videos as well as doing destroyer but it doesnt seem to help...i have no idea what to do and im freaking out...any1 have any advice?

Hey, if you've done this much already then there is no reason to freak out.. take it one concept at a time and you'll be fine. I'm sure it isn't as bad as it seems.. don't let the stress eat you up though.. staying calm is part of the success as well😉

but the thing is i havent been getting anything higher than like a 15 on my kaplan practice exams so that hasn't been helping relieve the stress

dude.. well.. I guess take few days away from the practice tests and spend that time wisely reviewing concepts (especially those you keep getting wrong); if you don't learn from your mistakes than there is no point of continually getting half the test wrong...

just review your notes, refresh your memory and then jump back to the tests..

Did you happen to watch Chad video? They should be extremely helpful for both Gchem and Ochem. Link in my breakdown.

i watched his organic videos for the DAT/mcat but not the one for his actual class that he teaches...my problem is that i cant see the specific reactions when they mix up the solvents or the R group or add something extra that doesn't really anything but when its simple as they put it in the kaplan book then i can get it...i think i just need to practice a lot more...im looking at the roadmaps in the destroyer now when hopefully will help

Chances are slim that you will get tested on types of solvents for synthesis or reactions. (Except for SN1/2 and E1/2) Focus on the main reactants (like HBr only ignoring CH2Cl2 that might be present in the problem statement which is actually inert) You will definitely get better if you practice more. (Roadmap 👍)

I remember there were more than 4. Not 100% sure how many, but definitely more than 4. Sorry, I don't have the book on me now.

the latest destroyer has 6 roadmaps. maybe u can try to get a hold of those somehow?

It also has the diazonium road map thrown in the solutions somewhere...definitely see if you can find access to the maps missing from Destroyer 07!

Roadmaps are overrated. Just memorize all the kaplan reactions and you'll be fine.

Kaplan does just as good of a job in covering the necessary scope of reactions and it's a lot cheaper.

I got a 20 on my Ochem DAT.

If you want to improve your score, I would suggest you MEMORIZE all the reactions in Kaplan BB. Write them on flash cards, and practice practice practice.

You'll notice eventually there is a trend, oh, these reagents are OXIDIZING, oh these are REDUCING.

Substitutions, nu- additions, eliminations...etc etc

The test itself is pretty generic. Although my test did have quite a few Spectroscopy questions which was MEH for me.
