If there is a methyl benzene, and you react with Cl2 with hv, then the Cl attaches to the methyl group and not the benzene correct? So it'd be CH2CL sticking out of benzene.
After that, if there is another addition reaction, would the addition go to ortho/para or meta? I know CH3 intiailly is donating, but now since the Cl is attached, is it withdrawing now since its electronegative so the group adding would go meta? Or would it just go ortho para? If it's the latter, why wouldn't the added Cl affect the C to be donating to withdrawing?
