I am applying to med school this cycle but have not taken Ochem 2 as to be honest I hate the subject and am not sure I want to put in the money, effort, and time for the class if it is not necessary. I have however taken Ochem 1 and Biochem. Furthermore, in regards to bio, I have only taken the 2 basic biology courses (besides Biochem). How essential is it to have more bio classes to apply? If schools do require an additional ochem or bio course is it going to count against me, or will they be ok if I simply take it before matriculation? I graduated a year and a half ago and then finished research, mcat, and other pre-reqs. I am going to apply to both DO/MD schools and have a 3.94 GPA if that factors into anything.

You're going to have to take ochem 2

Each school will have some specific requirements, so you should buy MSAR. It's worth the $28.

For example, some schools will be fine with just 2 semesters of bio. But other schools will want a genetics class, or 12 credits of English/humanities, etc.

Check the requirements for the schools you want to apply to. Many allow you to take biochemistry in place of organic II. So short answer is: you don't have to take organic II, but it will limit where you can apply.

As far as biology classes go, some schools require an extra class, most don't.

So if you get the MSAR, it'll tell you which schools will allow you to take Biochem instead of Orgo II. But you will be limited to where you can apply to. Orgo II is a bit easier than Orgo I, so maybe just take it at a local CC? Sucks to have to limit the number of schools you wanted to apply to...

Are schools fine with you being registered for/in the middle of a pre-requisite course while your application is processing? I have heard some schools won't actually review your application or bring you in for an interview until all courses are completed. Supposedly UW is like that, but are most programs more lenient?

I don't think so. I think they only check for prerequisite completion after an acceptance. So it won't prevent you from being accepted, but may prevent with MATRICULATING. At least that's what @gonnif says so...
