i already got a taste of Organic Chemistry. To me, i think its hard but very doable (it just requires alotta studying and true understanding of the material so that memorizing can be limited to the minimum). and of course- teachers make it harder than it has to be (but then again, u cant blame them for tryin to prepare future med students).

but i havent taken Biochemistry yet.

so i was wondering, whats harder? Organic or Biochem?

btw, just for fun... how would u guys rank the science classes u took in preparation to attend med school (list all the classes, or just the major ones, u took in order of difficulty).

for me, level of difficulty goes from
- General Chemistry < Biology/Physics (tied) < Organic Chemistry

Physics II
Physics I
Gen Chem II*
Calc II
Calc I
Biochemistry
Organic II
Organic I
Bio II
Bio I

*Can't remember much about this class overall; I took it in '96 and bombed the final b/c I fell asleep.

biochem was definitely harder than ochem for me, but that was due to a cocky, stuck up professor who insisted on keeping the exam averages around 50%. If the professor would have half decent, then I would lean towards ochem being harder.

biochem is a stupid pain in the ass when the prof makes you memorize random crap. ochem is easier; it has a logical flow.

i just started biochem this sem., but so far, i'm doing better than i did in orgo. but that could be because my orgo 1 prof fell off a horse and broke her collarbone and was out for some time, and everyday for 6 weeks, we had a different prof.

Everything is easy, except physics 3 ( waves and nuclear stuff ). Glad I won't be studying that anymore * dances * 😀

Physics II
Calc I
Organic II
Biochemistry
Physics I
Gen Chem II
Organic I
Gen Chem I
General Bio I

I guess physics II wasn't that hard, but painful, as in I hated it!!!

Biochem may be just as hard as Ochem, but it's so much more interesting and applicable to your future. It's a great course (and you'll get to learn the citric acid cycle for the umpteenth time)

The ranking

PchemI > Biochem II > Ochem I > PChem II > Calc I, II,III > Ochem II > Any Bio course

(But I was a biochem major so obviously have a screw loose)

Ochem was req'd for Biochem... so it's kind of hard to rate them. You had to know one, to take the other. I agree with above posters who said that it's applicable to future studies and therefore more interesting. I just wish biochem at my school had a lab... other than micro, it actually seems like the one class where I would actually LIKE to have a lab! 😀

Gen Chem<Genetics<Analytical Chem<Gen. Bio<Organic<Physics<Bacteriology<Experimental Human Phys<Biochem

Take Genetics before you take Biochem if you can...at least with the way it's taught at our school, not having Genetics first was a hugh disadvantage...made the course seem really overwhelming.

dOrK: not becuz you think everything is easy, but becuz you have the arrogance to tell as many people as you can... and becuz you think people give a sh#t.

physics-biochem-org chem-biology

for me:

Biochem>Organic II>Physics II>Organic I>Physics I>Calc I>Gen Chem I and II>General Bio

(but i also took my physics at an easier school)
