Hi i am taking Organic chemistry i next fall, a lot of people told me organic chemistry is taught, organic is totally different than general chemistry

Can someone explains to me what is the difference, how can i study for it. I didn't do well in general chemistry

Gen chem is calculation heavy and org chem is concept heavy. You have to understand and combine concepts more extensively to do well in org chem since you can't just plug in number and get questions right like you can in gen chem. I think org chem is way harder than gen chem.

As for how to study it, read, memorize, and do practice problems like you do for gen chem.

Hello,
I tutor Gen chem and Orgo students at my college...If this makes you feel any better, the kids who didn't like gen chem tend to do pretty well in orgo! I don't want to generalize...but it may give you some optimism going into it! Gen chem is more quantitative - Orgo is more qualitative - Orgo is more about visualizing molecules in space - how they look like and how they interact...In a way, it uses more of the skills needed to take the PAT (being able to visualize 3-D things in your mind)...Don't fear it! Dare I say...look forward to it..?! If you can get past the amount of work you need to do - orgo is pretty cool conceptually.

A great tool is David Klein's Organic Chemistry as a Second Language - a little blue book with lots of great explanations and practice sets - I used this much more than my actual course textbook for studying!
