I am a sophomore at Indiana University, premed. I have a 3.888 cum G.P.A. and am taking the MCAT this summer. I have passed both organic one and two with As. I am currently enrolled in Organic Lab (a separate class here) with a teacher who is notorious for giving out only very small percentage of As. It is more than likely i will end with a B or C, even with a large amount of work input. I can drop the class and take it this summer at IUPUI where I am familiar with the instructor and can most likely earn an A. So which is lesser of two evils in this situation a drop and a subsequent A in summer school, or sticking it out and getting a lower grade B or C. This is a 2 credit class.

Thanks for any words of advice

Adam

Take Orgo Lab at the other institution and get the A (and a LOR). You do not want to explain at an interview why you got a C in Orgo Lab.

Are you serious? A 3.88 student worrying about a 2-unit B/C that will most likely have a neglible effect on your already high GPA?

Take the class at your home institution. You'll save money, time, and transferring headaches.

Agreed. With such a high GPA, pulling off an 80+% shouldn't be difficult. While an A would look better, I think you'll be fine with a B. 'Grats on that 3.88, that's an achievement right there.

Does organic lab help out with the MCAT? I don't mind the problem of transferring so much, my main concern is having a W on my record in a science class.

Thanks i hope i can keep it up 🙂

I think you should just take it at your current university.. it may not be as bad as people say it is. As long as you give it you best...you'll probably end up being in the group that gets and A. You'll be fine.

Seriously, a 'B' in a 2 credit course will barely have any effect on your grade. It looks worse for you to drop a class and retake it in the summer because from a neutral point of view, it looks like your trying to get a better grade by taking it easy in the summer or another institution.

Suck it up and get on the professor's good side. To get to the top you'll have to be prepared to kiss a lot of the bottom, as the saying goes.

Sounds like the smarter move is to stay in the class and get in touch with the teacher. So thats what i will do.

Thanks for the input everyone. 🙂
