This may be a simple question, but what does the N mean in front of a name? For example, destroyer orgo number 26. Its name is N-[3-chlorphenyl]propanamide.

I have the same question.

A small italic n means "normal" right?

This may be a simple question, but what does the N mean in front of a name? For example, destroyer orgo number 26. Its name is N-[3-chlorphenyl]propanamide.

the substituents in the brackets indicate what N is attached to. this compound is an amide with a secondary N

n has nothing to do with normal, it means that the substituents are bonded to the N group (the amine). So if it says N,N-dimethyl propanamine, it means that the two methyls are bonded to the Nitrogen and not to the Propane chain.
