Hi guys, the 2 examples pictured below are both from odyssey. Why is the first compound (I)'s group next to the CH3 named as a vinyl group? The second picture posted said that it is called an allyl.

Vinyl - is when a substituent is attached directly to a carbon with a double bond, like in the first structure.
Allyl - is when a substituent is attached to a carbon, one single bond away from a double bonded carbon, like in the second structure.

Hope this helps.
