I wanna make sure if there are questions about reaction mechanisms on organic part exam or not...

I'm studying orgo II for myself for DAT next month...I'm getting screwed up in many confusing mecanisms...

Please let me know...Thanks... <img border="0" alt="[Wowie]" title="" src="graemlins/wowie.gif" />

Hey Gobiz,

On my organic section, there wasn't really anything about mechanims, if you mean in terms of pushing electrons and arrows. But, you should know reactions in terms of synthesis, reactants, and some mechanisms talked about in the Kaplan book.

Good luck, and if you have any problems with mechanisms in orgo, you can feel free to PM me. I just graduated with a degree in organic chemistry.

i took the DAT's last summer...so things may be a lil bit hazy now. but, i don't recall any specific mechanism questions on the ochem section. it is a multiple choice exam...so it'd be hard for them to test you on mechanism. however, i think maybe the most complicated thing that's slightly mechanism related would be a problem in which you have to predict the product in 3 stages. for ex:

X --&gt; B --&gt; C --&gt; Y

and if you were given what X and Y are as well as reagents for each step, they can ask you what B or C were. and the answer choices could differ only in their stereochemistry. i dunno...just a potential question...but this would, by far, be as hard as a mech-related problem would get.

hope this helps...

Hi hi,

There is no electron pushing stuff. When I studied for org chem, I just used Kaplan DAT book and memorize all the reactions. It is almost like that on the DAT, except the molecule might look a little bit different.

  good luck studying!!!!!

Thanks a lot!! guys..

your answers make me comfortable in studying organic part....

Good luck
