OK,

Honestly I really am worried about organic. That is why I keep coming and asking you guys about it. People have scared me too much.

I don't think I like chemistry at all. Well, it's weird. I think i am sorta entertained by it a little bit only because it pisses me off so much. I don't know how I ended up with an A in gen chem last semester!

Anyway, thank god its the summer!!!!

Now, i want to make use of this summer. Since I will be taking organic next semester, do you guys think I should buy the book now and start reading it? Or does that never work?

What is the best way to succeed in organic? HONESTLY. By success I mean an A!

Thanks.

Best way to ace O-chem, is get a friend name Matt Damon who sits around in coffee shops and magically knows O-chem.

If that doesn't seem to happen my advice is to take O-chem slowly and study everyday. I'm not sure what school you are at, but at my university offered a few different o-chem classes. There was a one semester class (which crammed everything into one semester) which was mega tough, the traditional track of doing both classes over an entire year (2 semesters) or even just taking a kaplan ochem advantage class and then enrolling for ochem. My advice is take the traditional approach, and study everyday. Besides when you have to take the DAT itll be easy if you study ochem really well now.

All the best.

I'm in the same boat as you... worried about O-Chem, so I bought a book from a fellow pre-dent called High Yield O-Chem (I also bought them for Biology and Gen Chem). I received the books yesterday and I was able to skim parts of the Biology and Gen. Chem books since I just took those 2 classes last semester. In their preface it reads: "The beauty of this book is that it covers an amazing amount of material without being verbose." I totally agree, it's easy to read and even skimming the biology book I was able to fully understand a couple of concepts I had missed in my biology class I just took. Anyway, I haven't looked at the O-Chem book but I plan to soon. The author is Stephen Bresnick and the full name of the book is Columbia Review High-Yield Organic Chemistry. Hope this helps and good luck in your class!!

Organic is in my opinion easier than general chem. I know it is very subjective but don't let people scare you. I heard the same thing about organic being a nightmare and it ended up being my favorite class. It did have a lot to do with the professor but the material is very fun to learn and play around with.

Anyway, don't stress and waste your summer studying for a class you haven't started yet.

Cwisa's right. Organic is totally different than the freshman chemistry. The first two semesters of chem are all about memorizing formulas and constants, learning how to fill orbitals, molarity, molality, blah, blah, blah. Don't worry if you didn't care for freshman chem; it is BORING!!!!

Organic is a lot more fun. It's very conceptual; you probably won't see but one or two formulas the entire year. Just keep up with the course work and don't let yourself fall behind (the material builds on itself.) You'll all be fine. 🙂
