I was just wondering if everyone is a member of a fraternity? I know this is good for networking and getting to know more people, but I'm not sure if this is for me. I'm a little overwhelmed with classes right now.

We only have one frat at our school and not too many people join each year. I guess it just depends on what kinds of organizations are a good fit for you.

If Greek life isn't right for you, why not be active in a professional organization?

I just started being active in APhA (tell me if anyone is going to rgn. 2 MRM) and I'm pretty satisfied. There's plenty of opportunity for things to do, and yes we sometimes do have opportunities for social interaction. I've heard similar things about ASHP (well, PSHP since I'm from PA). But from my experience, these benefits can only be reaped if you're truly active, and don't just go to a few meetings every once in a while.

The benefit of organizational membership is typically proportional to the amount of activity you have in it. 1st year I joined APSA (ASHP,APha and stateSHP/PhA all with one coordinating board on the school level) as well as our AMCP and SIA (Industry) chapters. I was active in APSA on both APhA and ASHP side, went to both conferences, etc and learned quite a bit. SIA I didn't do a thing a basically just wasted my dues. The point is, if you're going to spend money on dues, you might as well spend time in the organzation and get something out of it.

Oh, and yes I went Greek. Happy with the decision. 1/2 our class joined 1 of 3 frats last year. 1/2 didn't. A few more joined this year, but not many. ~2/3 of the class of 2012 joined this year.
