Orgo 2 Lab?

Hey i was just wondering what most of you did for orgo 2 lab. I dont see that it is required by med schools and i dont need it for my minor in chem. Does it look better if I take it, or should i be fine with or without it. I dont mind orgo labs, however, if I dont have to take it I wouldnt complain at all...thanks

I think most schools do require it... They tend to indicate such with an asterisk at the end of Organic chem, and then saying that all classes marked with one require the lab.

I could be wrong, but either way you are probably better off taking it.

Some schools replace one orgo course with a biochemistry course, but generally you need to complete both semesters of orgo including the lab portion.

I was in a similar situation this year when I applied. Although, I have over 8 semester hours of organic chemistry (the requirement of most schools) I did not complete my second organic chemistry lab. I was not asked about this during any interviews nor was I contacted about finishing this coursework after I was accepted to five programs. I was contacted about finishing other coursework, though. To be safe, you should contact the programs you are interested in since required coursework differs from school to school.

I contacted many schools asking this exact question (as a non-trad working full-time I have to pick and choose what I can tackle and orgo II lab was very low on my list). Most schools said that as long as I had at least one semester of organic chem lab it would fulfill their requirement.

I did express that if needed, I'd take it after accepted (preferably at a community college in Hawaii, sipping girly alcoholic beverages on the beach [one can dream])).

yea..i dont mind taking it, but i mean orgo labs arent the most exciting labs, especially when its 3 hours a week twice a week. Not to mention the lab reports are around 10 pages (at least at my university) but thanks alot for the responses. Ill check call/email the programs im looking at and ask...

orgo?? hmmmmmm, I'm not familiar with this orgo you speak of. I do remember taking an ochem lab though. I think the large majority of med schools requires both semester of ochem lab.

This is usually true, but some schools will let you substitute one orgo/ochem class with biochemistry.

unless you are applying to a select few I wouldn't bank on most schools being like this. As I said, the majority are going to want both semesters.....and often will suggest a semester of biochem in addition to ochem
