Is there any DO school that requires orgo 2 lab before you matriculate?
just wondering.....cause i never took orgo 2 and im planning on taking it this winter starting january...in CASE i get off the waitlist at LMU...i dont want to have to give it up just cause i did not have one requirement met
i took orgo 1 and lab...so would just orgo 2 class be enuff?

is there anyone who matriculated without their orgo 2 lab?
please help!

I think as long as you have made it clear you'll take it before matriculating it won't negatively impact you for admissions for any DO school...

But under the requirements of most schools it says 8 credit hours of orgo
my orgo 1 class was 4 credits...and lab 1...so that is 5 credit hours. Orgo 2 class is 3 credit hours...so that makes it 8 total. I know some schools like MSU dont even REQUIRE orgo 2...theres a couple more im sure....
my question is not that do i have to complete it before i matriculate...i know that...
my question is do i have to take orgo 2 lab AT ALL??
has anyone matriculated to a DO school without orgo 2 LAB?

Oh, I see. Yes, when a school says "8 hours of Organic," they mean lab included. I'm pretty sure they are assuming most schools are on a 3+1 credit hour system.

LMU's website states the prereqs as "Organic Chemistry: Minimum of 8 semester units (including lecture and lab)."

Laiba I am still rooting for you (i wish I could call the admissions people at dcom for you) and I will be attending dcom, so I hope to see you there in the Fall. I believe the lab portion is required (and not just the eight units) but call the school to be certain (don't rely on advice via SDN). Also if your current class doesnt offer the lab then just take it online with the lecture online (i did this for o chem one and two with lab and every school I applied to was ok with it). University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine has a great program for online prerequisites and it is self paced. I finished o chem one in two weeks with lab. I went slower on o chem two because it was my last class (yay!).

Man I had to edit my last post. I posted it via my phone and didn't realize how many spelling and grammatical errors it contained until I viewed it via my desktop. I looked completely illiterate and in reality I am only partially illiterate.

Momentary thread hijack,

You decided for sure on LMU?😀

Well I paid my deposit of $1,250 that I would like to not lose...😳.

At this point I think I am 95-99 percent certain.

I have turned down like 4 other interviews, but it looks like I will be seeing you in the Fall Max....😀.

My undergrad school was also on a 4+1 as well so don't always look at the numbers but whether lab is required. On DCOM's website it clearly states they require the lab. Also it states a MINIMUM of 8 hours so it is assumed that people may fall over the 8 hours in orgo based on how their school puts hours to it (or retakes of course).

Biochemistry now is a different story as some schools require it, some do not, some want it with lab, some do not.

So definitely take Orgo 2 and the lab b/c you never know you just may get a call from DCOM pulling you off the list and you will want to be prepared with nothing left to question on your prereqs. Always better to be safe than sorry...meaning even if they did not require it I would still take it b/c other schools do and you may need to re-apply next year and it is much much easier to take the lab and class together as the topics go hand in hand.

DCOM does require the lab - you must have:

Physics I / Lab
Physics II / Lab
Organic I / Lab
Organic II / Lab
Gen Chem I / Lab
Gen Chem II / Lab
Gen Bio I / Lab
Gen Bio II / Lab
College English - 6 hours
