Depends more on orgo section performance. I would say 20+ in orgo would help out.

How about a 25? is that good enough 🙂

I got a C in orgo I and II and I've been pretty worried about it as well. I haven't taken the DAT yet, but I was hoping that doing well on the DAT will make up for it. Right now I have a 3.49 overall GPA and a 3.18 Science. After this semester I could potentially bring it up to over a 3.5 overall and about a 3.3 science. Also, I've been doing research for over a year and should have a few publications soon. I've volunteered about 100 hours, 50 being in an Emergency Dental clinic. So....any comments?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Wow. We have almost the same stats/experiences. I got a B- and C- in Orgo I and II, respectively and my GPA is 3.5 overall and 3.3 Science and I have 100+ hours volunteering at a clinic and have 1+ years of experience in research and have a few publications coming out soon. I took my DAT in September and got a 27 (100 percentile 🙂 ) on Orgo so don't give up hope. You can do it! Study hard and kick some butt.
Thanks for the encouragment. I'm a junior right now, so I"ll be starting the whole DAT process pretty soon. What year are you?

I graduated in May 2004 🙂 I'm taking a year off to work and maybe(hopefully) travel a bit too 🙂
That was an idea I was considering. I'd love to take some time to travel. Good job on your Orgo DAT score. Did you do anything in particular to prepare for the Orgo section?
Just to give you an idea....I got a C in both semesters of o-chem....17 on ochem DAT (20 TS)....Low 3 GPA and got accepted to 4 schools (3 were my top choices). I think most schools place little emphasis on o-chem other than the fact that you took it. They know how it is and how it varies from undergrad school to school.

I used the Kaplan blue book and Columbia Review High Yield Organic Chemistry. It's more than enough to do well on the test. Just get the concepts and main ideas down first, then go onto the problems. Don't worry about memorizing every little thing, the actual DAT is fairly basic, lots of substitution/elimination/nomenclature/acidity stuff/and a few obscure rxns. Good Luck. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Ahh that's good to know. Which schools were you accepted to?
dr_benj said:U of MN
U of Indiana
U of Louisville
Case
are you a resident of all these states, or are the above schools (other than case) all private?
It's good to see that you were excepted to U of Indiana..that's one of the schools I"m considering applying to. But, I live if Florida so I don't how many out of staters they except.
