Hello,

Just wondering...how much of orgo 2 is on the MCAT? Would I be at a huge disadvantage if I took the MCAT without orgo 2?

Thanks,

Tofurkey

I don't think there is much Orgo II on the MCAT. From what I recall, there wasn't much beyond SN1/SN2/E1/E2 on my form. I think you can learn whatever you need to know from the Kaplan book.

I think this would be better in the MCAT forums though.

I tend to disagree. What's listed on the MCAT Topics (here), and what I remember when I took it, it contains topics that was covered in my second semester course...mainly oxygen containing compounds and biologically relevant compounds.

Like our N-acetyl-substituted glucose said, most of it you can learn in a Kaplan book though.

The advice I was given when I took the MCAT was that if you were missing one of the pre-req courses, you could probably wing it by studying the relvant parts in the review book. I don't know how much I would take that advice, as MCAT score is such an important part of your MD/PhD application, but if you have plenty of time to study for it I would say go ahead.

Of course, be sure not to neglect studying for the other parts! I studied about 20hrs/week for 3 months, part of which was taking TPR.

Good luck!
