Hey guys,

So I'm currently in orgo II right now and am considering dropping the course since I want to get an A but my midterm mark is not going to allow that. My problem is that if I take the course in the summer with my school, we are offered virtual labs. We get tested on all the lab stuff (have a lab exam component with the final exam) and we learn all the techniques needed with the theory behind all the labs. Should I do that? If it were upto me, I would just finish my labs right now and take the course in the summer but they won't allow me to do that and I don't want to have to re-do all 10 labs (especially because I just finished the 7th one this week).

Any help?

P.S. I did try to search the forums for a related thread but wasn't able to find one so apologies if this is an over-asked question.

Are you saying that physical labs are not offered in the summer course, or are you asking if it is fine to opt for virtual labs when you have the option of doing physical labs in the summer course?

Physical labs are not offered in the summer at all.

I've tried virtual labs and frankly nothing compares to the actual experience of doing it with your hands. It's so easy to overlook details about what was done in a virtual lab that retention of key info (especially MCAT-related) is minimal. Plus things rarely go wrong in virtual labs, and the reality is that we learn more when things go wrong and we have to fix them than when everything goes according to plan...

I get that we get more out of physical labs than virtual labs but at this point, I just don't want to redo 7 labs if med schools are not going to care. I have the 70% wet lab experience. I just don't want to repeat it if I don't absolutely have to.

You should be contacting medical schools yourself to ask this question. Just call or email the admissions departments at various schools(not just one or two) and then you will actually know the answer.
