Since some schools only require 1 semester of Orgo, does this mean that there is only material from the first part of orgo on the DAT? (Can/should I take the DAT right after orgo 1 instead of taking it right after orgo 2)?

It's honestly not that bad. Just go through the recommended test prep materials and you should be fine.

The Orgo section of the DAT includes material from both Orgo 1 and Orgo 2. I took the DAT without taking Orgo 2 and got a 22. I used Chad videos to learn the necessary materials. You could also use Mike's videos on DAT BootCamp if you have the subscription. GL.

Chad’s videos + destroyer + took orgo 1&2 in undergrad, 26 on orgo section.

In general, DAT Bootcamp and “Ari’s Study schedule” are the way to go by far.

What’s the rush? Will you be limiting your application to only schools that require only one semester of orgo? In you bomb the orgo section, you will have a patent excuse.

I believe he's simplying interested in the option of taking the DAT before orgo2, and he only mentioned that some schools have an orgo prerequisite of only 1 semester because that's how he figured that it might be possible to take the DAT without orgo2.

Anyways what's been said is right. DAT orgo is both semesters. You can get away with taking the DAT before taking orgo2, but you'll need to learn the material from orgo2 if you want a good orgo score. And if you did well in orgo1, orgo2's material should be very easy.

I’d recommend taking ochem 2 before the DAT. A lot of mechanisms won’t make conceptual sense without it, and you’d be memorizing the steps rather than understanding them which could have some problems

i honestly thought most schoools, at least on the north east required 2 semesters of orgo, but anyways i took both at rutgers and barely studied orgo when preparing for the DAT and got a 27 in that section so i think its a smart move to take it

Same @I-hate-alginate. The material isn't difficult, but some background was necessary to understand the review. I didn't memorize the mechanisms; it was easier to think about what would happen (nucleophile v. electrophile), but maybe that's because of my major!
