I am a little bit confused about a question from the 2012 version of the DAT destroyer.
It is an NMR question that contains a diagram in it, so it would be pointless for me to type out the question. I would appreciate it if someone with this version of the DAT destroyer could go to question 28 and help me out!

For this question I would have chose answer E instead of B because in my diagram I see 5 different carbon signals. The solutions states that there are only 4 different carbon signals. Can someone explain to me why that is?

Thank you!!

The reason why there are 4 carbon signals and not 5 is because the 0 is a reference signal and you do not take this into consideration when counting carbons. Therefore, there are now 4 carbon signals and choice B has the corresponding 4. Hope this helps!
