benzene ring with carboxylic acid treated with SOCl2 --> benzene ring with acyl chloride? then treated with ethanol is equal to what?

i thought it would be an ester?

can someone help?
 
yeah you are correct. you would get methyl benzoate. make sure you can name products.

Esterification
Benzoic acid Leaving Group (OH), replaced by Cl of SOCl2.
Cl (Leaving Group) later replaced by OR' of Ethanol, which is C2H3O-

Product: Ethyl benzoate.
