Orgo section in Kaplan

Hi all

Just a quick questions, should I try to memorize the reaction reagents that I learned in my class or the ones listed in the big red kaplan book??? Because for some reactions the kaplan book uses reagents that are diff from the ones i learned in class. So I'm wondering does the kaplan book list the reagents that will be used on the DAT test?

So does anyone who's taken the DAT have any ideas?? I"m sure many other are wonderin the say thing.

I feel your pain with ochem. Of all the subjects that was the one i studied for most and still faired only decent, nothing exceptional. The best way to study is to just go by the Kaplan book. Honestly, the ochem section will show up like the reactions in the kaplan book. Make sure you know the most obvious mechanisms, functional groups and "waterfall mechanisms" (stuff that gets oxidized etc). It's really not a killer section if you memorize the ochem section and understand the basic mechanisms. You definitely should know nomenclature and E/Z, cis/trans, isomerization, SN1/2, E1/2. Remember there are only 30 questions so they wont be too many on any one part, expect 2 or 3 naming, 2 or 3 diasteromers (cant remember what thats called!), and a few mechanisms. All in all i think going by kaplan will get you through well enough.
