Okay, during the orientation days/week preceding classes what all happens? Are we talking about bonfires, animal sacrifices, and rituals of pain/scarification? I've never bothered with orientations during my college expeditions and I'm curious what happens and what's covered?

I would imagine it varies somewhat from one school to another. At MSUCOM, many of the faculty members introduced themselves, gave short sometimes inspirational speeches about osteopathy, what to expect in medical school, the usual speech about not cheating on exams. Dr.Anderson spoke to us and he was great. We were broken up into small groups with second year students to ask questions. We took a brief tour of different parts of the campus where our classes are held. We had a brief demonstration of OMM, learned about what equipment to buy. During the evenings, the second years had gatherings at some of the local bars, and social events to help us get to know each other.

We heard from representatives of various student organizations(and they sponsored free breakfasts and lunches for us each day of orientation, I miss that!)
The last day of orientation was our white coat ceremony. Some schools do this after the first semester I think.

The first day and a half was really fun, after that, I just wanted classes to start already.
If there would have been animal sacrifices, I think I would have decided then and there that medicine was not for me........................

futuredo32,

Anyone else got a story?
