Hi,

I am a third year MD student from the a US school. I just recently had a change of heart and decided to pursue Ortho as my specialty. I had initially thought of doing general surgery.

I am not sure where to start. I have some research experience and publication. My grades aren't too bad. I am meeting with my adviser to set up a fourth year schedule.

I am looking for some direction. Where can I find out some info about programs (I have already looked at careers in medicine), application process, step 2 time etc. Thanks in advance.

the best way to research programs is to look at program reviews on orthogate.org, orthogunner.com, scutwork.com, and of course SDN. after that its mostly word of mouth from attendings, residents, and medstudents at your program. personally I think that the 4th yrs at your school who are applying to ortho are the best resource. even though they haven't matched yet.they can tell you what they've done to get interviews and what they wish they could have done if they repeated this process over again.

Thank you DoctaJay. Did some reading today and getting to learn about the whole process.
