Generally speaking when you deal with spine cases and the complications associated with spine you are generally dealing with a much more severe "injury". Complications happen to everyone and most are beyond your control. Your best defense is a good surgical consent, maintaining a good repoire with your patients, a good reputation in the community and most important...know your limits. I would say the rate of litigation is going to be higher with spine but if you follow the above guidelines your exposure will be much less.
