What is it about orthopedic surgery and dermatology that you find so appealing?
I am having trouble deciding between MD and DO, and was wondering if i go into DO can i become a orthopedic surgeon or a dermatologist?
Yes, the possibility is there.
Can we institute a policy where anyone who asks this is promptly given an IP ban?I am having trouble deciding between MD and DO, and was wondering if i go into DO can i become a orthopedic surgeon or a dermatologist?

You will likely need research experience to match into these.
Seeing as your research skills are piss poor, I would say looking into another specialty might be better for you.

SORRY I DONT have ALL day to post and look through every thread on SDN. I thought that maybe I could get a faster answer if I asked here, but of course a loser that really doesn't have a life and spends all his time online, like yourself, really doesn't know how busy other people are.
HAVE A NICE DAY

In the time it took you to post this assinine response you could have googled your answer and you would have found the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery and the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology.
But I'M the dumb one. 🙄

I always find it interesting that a number of pre-meds have this yearning desire to go into orthopedics, ophthalmology, dermatology, plastics, etc. Why might that be? (insert emoticon with a ******* expression).

When do you have to report for residency? You might need to recruit some of us SDNer's to wheelbarrow you down to your orientation.

And none of them understand anything about the field. They just came across a website that showed physician salaries and saw these near the top.

Exactly.
And if by "volunteers" you mean paid employees at the bargain price of $150/hr., I'll hop on a plane first thing.

Wow. I better be going into Ortho, Derm, Optho, Plastics or Radiology.

Superturd's comments are weak, at best, but those dancing bananas are priceless. Seriously.

+1 for the dancing bananas. I think they are one of the best smilies.
Superman, take some time of your busy sked to read thru this website, pretty helpful info there - https://www.do-online.org/
Superman19 wants to go into ortho because he saw Cali Torres on Grey's Anatomy. She is smoking hot after all and good at what she does. </drool>

Thank you

It is more entertaining than you are and I for one swoon over Kate Walsh, Sara Ramirez and Katherine Heigl. I do not swoon over you. Keep your options open and learn that money isn't everything. You will live well as any type of doctor.

Why does everyone think i wanna do ortho because the money? I wanna do it so i can do sports med and my orthopedic surgeon is the reason i want to become a doctor.
Is it not possible for a pre-med to have a preliminary interest in a couple of different fields that happen to be well-compensated? (And no, I'm not being sarcastic)
I mean, the OP probably is drawn to them a bit because of the money, but he doesn't seem all that naive and idealistic to the whole process. At least it's not a "How much does a DO derm make?" or "How many hours does a derm/ortho work per week?"

I know what you mean. It's amusing because everyone always assumes if a premed shows interest in a competitive field they are automatically greedy. I could see how orthopedic surgery could be very interesting to someone, regardless of compensation. I happen to find dermatology interesting, although of course planning what specialty to go into at this point in my academic career would be ridiculous.
The short answer for this and everything else in life is that it helps to be a good-looking female.

...and yet I still find myself searching for answers-- bizarre. Just bizarre.
