Orthoclear has been bought by Invisalign

It's more like this. Orthoclear was being sued by Align for multiple patent infringements. After months of pretrial work, Orthoclear saw that they were going to lose and decided not to waste anymore money on going to trial. So, Align settled with Orthoclear. The settlement involved Align purchasing all of Orthoclear's patents, a cash payment of $20 million, and they assumed all of Orthoclear's patients (who will recieve continued treatment at no additional charge).

Goodbye Orthoclear.

Actually as my wife was informed by her(now former) orthoclear rep today, invisalign didn't as much buy them out as they sued them out of business for basically patent infringment. The arrangement for all orthoclear docs is that their cases will be completed using invisalign retainers, and all current orthoclear patients will be having new impression taken at their next visit from which the invisalign reatiners will be made to finish the case.

Just thought I'd put an update in for folks, and about how customer(patient) service can and will be affected by this. My wife heard from invisiline yesterday (11/6) about how they'll be going about converting her orthoclear patients (about 10 cases) over to invisiline.

The invisiline rep told her that due to the HUGE number of former orthoclear cases that invisiline is assuming, that the next set of retainers that her (now) former orthoclear patients will be getting won't be shipped to her to give to her patients until March😱

Lets just say that there will be a few unhappy patients surrounding this transition.
