Greetings colleagues. I am an orthodontic resident not too far from graduation. I have long personally debated the topic of starting an office from scratch vs buying into a partnership or buying out a retiring orthodontist. I am aware of the pros and cons of each but would like to hear from the experiences some you you may have had. I believe that a start up vs buying a practice is unique for every type of specialty be it Endo, OS, Pedo, Ortho, Prosth, since each have their referral based challenges. I think it is easier to open up a GP office and get it started, relatively speaking, comparing it to the aforementioned specialties. Reasoning, you can have walk in emergencies, patient retention for most procedures, etc. Thus I am leaning towards buying a practice or partnering up. Awaiting your thoughts...
