just curious how med students think of the special situation, for a graduate dental student

1. Orthodontics - 3 year program
2. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery - 6 year MD integrated

which one is better
 
Well I nanny for an OMFS who just did the DDS and I can say he is rolling in the dough... so if you are looking at a lifestyle choice know that you can do just the DDS with OMFS and do fine- he did residency at Emory (dental school in Philly) and has his own office. He works 3 full days and 2 half days a week (but takes 4-6 wks of vaca a year)...

I have no clue how much he makes exactly but I know he has paid all school debt, paid off a huge house and most of a lake house, has investment properties, paid for cars (nice), and 3 kids with a fourth on the way...and he is less than 10 years outta dental school... I will be moving to med school and chances are he will be hiring a live in nanny.

Seems like a good field but he does do a ton of wisdom teeth removals- he says those are what pays the bills and all the other stuff are the personal rewards (like implants, surgeries, etc)... I can't remember how much he gets paid for wisdom teeth removal cuz he just did mine for free. He also took call at Grady (level 1 trauma) for extra pay when he was setting up his private practice but now he doesn't and spends tons of time with the kids.
 
Do ortho. My orthodontist said he did ortho because when he was in college and had braces he saw how his ortho worked 4 days a week and drove a porche. He now does the same.
 
This is a dental issue and not a medical issue. This thread is offtopic for medical students who can follow if they want to post an opinion.
