Would you consider a OMFS less desirable to perform orthognathic surgery if he/she also specializes in oral oncology & pathology (or anything else)? Would you want your orthognathic surgeon to eat, sleep, & breathe this specific procedure, or is performing other surgical procedures part of being a well rounded OMFS? (The docs. regarded to be at the top of this specialty, Arnett, Posnick, among others, seem to market themselves as being highly focused on orthognathic.)

Is there some sort of unwritten code among docs., specifically OMFS & orthodontists that once an OMFS refers you to an ortho., that ortho. will be reluctant to then refer you to a different OMFS? Or in general, do docs. have referral agreements that may lead to a referral of someone other than whom they think is the best doc. for a patient?

Who would you consider to be the top surgeons to perform orthognathic surgery in NYC?

Better OMS division, NYU or NY-Presbyterian?
