It is my understanding that a D.O can do residency at both osteopathic and allopathic sites, with ostreo obviously being easier to get into. What i have read is that the osteo match comes before the allo match, and if an applicant applies to both osteo and allo, and gets in at an osteo program first, that he/she is automatically taken out of the allo match...is this right! B/c if so, I one wants to go to an allo residency, one would have to skip the osteo; but one would hate to skip the osteo match because that is the best chance for D.Os, esp with tough programs like ortho, derm, etc. Seems we D.Os have to sacrifice our best option to apply to the more competive allo residencies and risk and possibilities of missing out on both! Is this right? What did you do? Any thoughts/opinions?
