I am a PT student, but was hoping to get some help from any of you....thank you to anyone in advance.
I had a root canal fail and a tooth extraction in December. My dentist said there was osteomyelitis. After the extraction the site (of #19) healed well. Two months later I had a temp. bridge placed and after a week the swelling/inflammation of my jaw bone occurred again and it was found that the oral surgeon had missed the front root tip. My jaw bone is inflammed a third time (they put the temp bridge back on and food was trapped under it in the extraction site) and a third x-rays shows an infection in the jawbone tissue AGAIN. Does anyone know if osteomyelitis is probably spreading to other areas of the jaw by now? I need a new oral surgeon, but wondered what questions to ask to ensure they have worked a lot with/are comfortable with patients with jaw bone infections (and maybe root tips left in the extraction site b/c they were so close to the alveolar nerve).

Hi buddy, sorry to hear you are in pain. Well, unfortunately, nobody can diagnose what your problem is on here. You just need to go to an oral surgeon (maybe a friend of your can refer you to a good one in your area??) and see what s/he says. Without seeing the x-rays or some intraoral pics, it is difficult to assess your problem on this site.
